Date: Wed, 30 Apr 1997 17:41:01 -0700 (PDT) Subj: [Benjamin] A day in the life Glad to have someone to relate to and at the site of the chess board and pieces, Matoaka tells Benjamin that she is familiar with the game. As if stung by a bee, she suddenly drags him to her hut and pulls out finished and unfinished carved objects. Matoaka shows Benjamin the wooden bowl she has carved out and explains how she made it and that she uses it for crushing berries and herbs to create the ink she uses for painting herself. The bowl is sturdy, stained and incredibly smooth from being handled every day. Nothing to be excited about; however, she handles it with great care. What she is currently carving is a comb to replace the old one she has. >"It is possible that here, *we* are the spirits. But I know not why Shaw >would be first to accept a spirit. Had you asked me, I would have said >that Jeanne, had she been there, would have been first." > >On mention of Jeanne, Benjamin turned his eyes away from Matoaka for a >moment, but when he turned back, he looked no different. Matoaka instinctively looks in the same direction and sees nothing. She presses the matter, Benjamin began speaking in english. "Why you think that?" >Benjamin is glad to help Matoaka find some work relevant to her skills. If >possible, he will choose tasks that keep her working with him during the >day, depending on what he's working on (or if he can switch tasks to work >with her instead). If he can arrange that they work together, he will >continue to talk to her during the day for the joy of conversation and >company, and possibly also begin to learn her language. Once more, Matoaka is surprised at Benjamin’s interest and says, "Paleface never interested in learning about us! No people speak Iroquois here. Why you want learn?" She stares at him distrustfully and continues before he answers, Plan: If the term Iroquois seems to puzzle Benjamin, Matoaka will explain that it is an Indian tribe. "What you know about Indians? Indians live in your time?" Plan: If satisfied with Benjamin’s answer, Matoaka will finally crack a smile and says, "If you help me with English, me help you with Iroquois." Plan: If Benjamin has no objections, Matoaka will start by teaching him the words about what he does on a daily basis. Plan: If she is not satisfied with his answer, she will say, "Paleface all same." and leave. *private* To GM: GM-in the event you grant him the meeting. Here is something to consider. I'm having fun :) >Plan: If Shaw happens to notice Matoakas use of the dream gum he will stand and >watch her from a distance, then, when she is done walk up to her slowly >and ask her "What did you see?" if she seems hesitant to talk he will say >"I have had dreams also." Matoaka is shaken at Shaw addressing her. She stands ready for anything, turns ice cold and just stares at him until he tells her of his dreams. She does not seem impressed at his claiming he had dreams and quickly says, "Me saw nothing today, unfortunately." However, she is curious and relaxes a bit, "What you see?"
